Dee's Devotion to the Outback
Meet THE Outback Explorer
For most people, venturing into the Outback is about excitement, vast landscapes, and camaraderie on dusty roads. But for those like Dee Reeves, a seasoned participant in Outback rallies, it’s also about being prepared for the unexpected.
Having nine outback rallies under her belt, Dee has learned that resourcefulness and preparedness can be the difference between a minor setback and a major catastrophe.
One of her most trusted tools during these adventures are her Explorer and Adventurer Rescue Swags, two multifunctional first aid kits that have proven to be invaluable in both medical and mechanical situations.
Recently, we were lucky enough to sit down with Dee and as she walked us through how sometimes even the smallest tools can make the biggest difference in remote and rugged terrain.
Rallying for a Cause
For those who aren’t familiar, an Outback Australian rally is an adventurous long-distance drive through rugged and remote terrains, testing participants' endurance, navigation skills, and resourcefulness while often raising funds for charities.
For Dee, rallies aren’t just about the adventure - they’re about giving back. Many of the events she participates in raise funds for charities, which supports disaster relief efforts and essential services.
Through her participation, Dee and her team have raised money for vital projects, including lights for remote airstrips used by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Dee’s rally experience spans across many events, including the 2023 Gun Gunner Road Boss Rally - where a total of $400,000 was raised by event participants.
She is now preparing for an epic 13,000 km journey from Alice Springs to the Kimberley next year. According to Dee, what makes rallies so thrilling is the unpredictable nature of the Outback - one minute you’re cruising on smooth roads, and the next, you’re wrestling with potholes, mud, or challenging off-road conditions.
In these intense environments, both vehicles and drivers are pushed to their limits. Dee’s pink 2003 BA Falcon wagon, lovingly named "FlaminGo Bling," has been her steadfast companion through these trials.
But even the most reliable car can face mechanical hiccups, which is why Dee always has a Rescue Swag First Aid Kit by her side, helping her handle everything from first aid to on-the-spot repairs.
The Versatility of Rescue Swag
One of the standout features of the Rescue Swag kit is its versatility. It’s designed for more than just medical emergencies, a feature that Dee quickly learned to appreciate - the Rescue Swag kit is the ultimate Swiss Army kit for the road.
During the July 2023 rally from Westmar to Gunnedah, Dee found herself using the kit in more ways than she ever imagined.
The Splinter Probe: usually intended for removing splinters from skin, became the perfect tool to fix a blocked windscreen washer after a mud run in Cobar.
The Scissors: came in handy, not just for first aid but for cutting open food pouches during camping.
The Explorer Rescue Swag dry bag: served an unexpected purpose, keeping her phone dry during a particularly rainy day.
With no mechanic immediately available, they improvised using the splinter probe from the Rescue Swag Kit to fix the issue, getting back on the road without delay.
When the rally medic vehicle wasn’t close by, Dee’s kit became a lifeline, offering wound dressings, antiseptic cream, and knuckle band-aids to treat the inevitable scrapes and cuts that come with vehicle repairs.
Her Rescue Swag was always the first thing people reached for in times of need, highlighting how crucial first aid preparedness is in remote locations.
A Rescue Swag First Aid Kit is not just for treating injuries but for solving a range of everyday problems that can pop up during long, off-road journeys.
Whether it’s cutting, cleaning, repairing, or protecting, Rescue Swags ensure you’re never without the tools you need, no matter what situation arises.
As Dee prepares for her next 13,000-kilometer Super rally from Alice Springs to the Kimberley, she continues to rely on the Rescue Swag kits.
Her advice for those embarking on their own Outback adventures? Always be prepared and make the most of the resources at your disposal. Whether it’s fixing a car, treating an injury, or simply keeping your gear dry, a little resourcefulness - and the right tools - can make all the difference.
These rallies don’t just test physical endurance; they test mental flexibility and the ability to adapt on the fly.
Dee’s experiences have shown that the key to success in these environments is not just in being well-prepared but also in knowing how to creatively use what you have.
Dee's Lessons in Resourcefulness
Dee’s story is a powerful testament to the importance of resourcefulness in the Australian Outback. Her experiences highlight the value of being prepared, both mentally and physically, and of having the right tools at your disposal.
The Adventure and Explorer Rescue Swags have become an essential part of her rally kit, helping her overcome challenges both big and small.
For those looking to embark on their own Outback adventures, Dee’s advice is simple: always be prepared, and be ready to think outside the box.
Whether it’s fixing a car in the middle of nowhere, treating an injury, or just keeping your phone dry, the right tools and a little resourcefulness can go a long way.
So, before your next rally or off-road adventure, make sure your Rescue Swag is packed and ready. You never know when it might be the key to keeping you on the road.
