Top three road trips in Queensland

Aussies love a good road trip especially when it ticks off some bucket list destinations.

To help you map out your next adventure we’ve narrowed down the top three road trips in Queensland which are suitable for all types of grey nomads including short weekenders, off-road adventures, and long-haul drives.

1. Pacific Coast Way (Gold Coast – Cairns)
Drive along Queensland’s coastline exploring tropical beaches and major cities from the Gold Coast to Cairns. The Pacific Coast Way is a long road trip, but it is a classic for grey nomads who enjoy heading north to escape winter. Highlights along the way include the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, whale watching at Hervey Bay, turtle hatching at Mon Repos Beach near Bundaberg, the Great Barrier Reef and Far North Queensland’s National Parks.

2. Overlander’s Way (Townsville – Camooweal)
A long drive inland from beach to bush travelling from Townsville to Camooweal. This scenic drive showcases some of the best outback towns in the state including Charters Towers, Hughenden, Richmond, Julia Creek, Cloncurry (home of the RFDS) and Mount Isa (home to an RFDS Base). For those who like to explore off the beaten track, there are plenty of 4WD tracks available. Drivers are warned to checked road access during the wet seasons, so travel safely!

3. Big Red (Brisbane – Birdsville)
One of the best ways to explore Outback Queensland is to dive to the famous Big Red in the Simpson Desert. The bright red dune against a clear blue sky is something you’ll never unsee. If you’re able to pre-plan the trip it’s recommended to time it around the Birdsville Races and Big Red Bash.

These events see thousands of travellers every year and it’s a great way to meet other families who enjoy life on-the-road.

No matter where you decide to go, packing a first aid kit will ensure you are equipped to apply first aid as soon as an accident occurs.  With so many different types of first aid kits available, we’ve designed one which is specifically built for road trips and outdoor adventures.

The Adventurer Rescue Swag contains three supply modules for minor accidents, sprains, snakebites, burns and major injuries. Best of all it is water resistant and dust proof making it a great travel companion!
